Adrenal fatigue is a conglomerate of signs and symptoms, referred to as a syndrome,  that results once the adrenal glands perform below the normal level.   This is usually related to intense or prolonged stress, it can even arise from acute or chronic infections, particularly metastasis, infections like flu, respiratory illness or respiratory disorder.  As it is implied in the name, its preponderating symptom is fatigue.  As far as outward appearance the presentation is not distinct with adrenal fatigue and will not have any obvious signs of physical sickness, nevertheless you reside with a general sense of malady, fatigue or "gray" feelings.  Typically it is common for people with this condition to use coffee, sodas and alternative stimulants to help with the transition from the morning to midday and then throughout the day.
This syndrome has also been knows as non-Addison's hypoadrenia, sub-clinical hypoadrenia,  adrenal nervous breakdown, adrenal apathy as well as adrenal fatigue.   Even though it affects a large percentage of the population within the U.S. and around the globe, the standard medical model doesn't acknowledge it as a definite syndrome.

What causes adrenal fatigue?
Adrenal fatigue typically occurs when your adrenal glands cannot adequately meet the strain of stress.* The adrenal glands mobilize your body's responses to each stress (whether it's physical, emotional, or psychological) through hormones that regulate energy production and storage, immune response, heart rate, and alternative processes that assist the body to cope with the stress.    This stress could be an emotional crisis like the death of a love one, a physical crisis such as an accident or surgery, or any sort of severe recurrent or constant stress in your life, your adrenals glands need to reply to the stress and maintain a balance.   If their response is insufficient, then some extent of adrenal fatigue may result.*

Symptoms which may be evident:
• Certain food cravings and weight changes: Abnormal weight gain located around the abdomen and  thighs.   It is possible to have cravings for salty or sweet foods.
• Thinking: Mentally foggy, fuzzy thinking, inability to remain focused .
• Immune response: Frequent infections, longer time than others to recover from illness or infections or trauma.
• Sleep: Insomnia with difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep with sleep being curtailed, not having enough REM sleep.  Typically people will say they wake up feeling exhausted.
• Hormones/Libido: Worsening of perimenopausal symptoms, low libido, severe PMS.
• Blood pressure: High or low, low blood pressure can be related to a feeling of light headedness.

It is possible that other conditions can mimic this condition so therefore it is important to discover the root cause.
